F.L.A.M.E.

Females Leading Aggies as Mentors in Engineering (F.L.A.M.E.) was started in January 1998.  This program has grown steadily since its start, with 26 mentees and 9 mentors participating in the spring of 2009. One of the main goals of F.L.A.M.E. is to enrich students by providing mentorship.

The mentors are female engineers working in industry who come from different backgrounds.  Students are usually assigned to groups of 2-3 members, and then matched with a mentor who works in a discipline that the students are interested in.  Bi-monthly contact is maintained via e-mail through discussion topics, which range from advice on college to interview tips, and even the occasional joke!

Twice per semester, students and mentors meet in Houston and College Station for networking luncheons.  In past semesters, several students were offered internship and co-op opportunities as a result of their participation in F.L.A.M.E.  This program is truly a reflection of networking and support in continuing education.
