Big Sis-Lil Sis is a mentor program that was introduced in fall of 2008. Throughout the year, we had over 80 girls participate! This is a huge number considering it was the first year for the program.
Big sisters are usually upperclassmen, or juniors and seniors, and little sisters are underclassmen, or freshmen and sophomores. The big sisters are matched up by major with little sisters and provide them with advice on what classes to take, with tips on internship interviews and with what organizations to join! Each group of a big sister and little sisters has the opportunity to meet each other at a social hosted at the beginning of the year. Every 2-3 weeks an email thread with questions on school, internships, etc is sent out to get the groups talking and let the big sisters impart their know-how on the little sisters.
The flexibility of the program allows each sister to be as involved as she desires and as she is able to. At the end of the semester, another social takes place to celebrate the relationships build between the girls. Last year, several students enjoyed and took advantage of the opportunity this program provides.
